A cable problem on a Brentwood garage door usually shows up as one of a few things: the door hangs crooked in the opening with one side higher than the other, there's a loud bang followed by the door refusing to move, or you can see frayed strands sticking out near the bottom roller bracket or up at the drum.
Because Brentwood's stock is newer, built mostly after 2003, the failure is rarely rust-through, the way it can be on older doors closer to Livermore's 1980s neighborhoods. It's more often UV and heat cycling drying out the cable strands over 15-20 years, which fits the mild temperate climate here - no heavy freeze-thaw damage, but plenty of sun exposure on cables sitting in a hot garage. If the cable has already come off the drum and wrapped around the shaft, don't try to force the door open or closed. That's a spring-tension situation, not a simple cable swap, and forcing it risks the torsion spring letting go while someone's hands are on the door.
